Manchester United have reportedly added Sander Berge to their list of targets with the Red Devils holding talks with the player’s agents.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were keen on Manuel Ugarte but the Red Devils pulled out of a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder due to the demands that the French side have made.
Whilst Ugarte would have been one of the deals of the summer for United if a loan deal had been possible, the Red Devils have moved on to other targets.
One of these targets for United is Sander Berge and a move could be possible this summer with Ineos having been impressed by the Norwegian midfielder’s style of play.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Sander Berge
Since his move to Sheffield United from Belgian side Genk back in January 2020, the Norwegian’s stock rose in the Premier League before it has since flatlined as Burnley were relegated.
In his most recent season in the Premier League, which was the 2023/24 campaign, Berge featured in 37 of Burnley’s 38 league games, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Before his move to the Blades in 2020, Berge had made quite an impact in the Champions League when Liverpool took on the Belgian side in Europe’s elite club competition.
According to The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp made a beeline for the Norwegian and said to Berge: “You are an interesting player, a very interesting player.”
Not long afterward, the Genk midfielder was sought out by Virgil van Dijk. Berge had asked Stefan Johansen, Norway’s captain and a former team-mate of the Liverpool defender at Celtic, to see if he would be willing to swap shirts after the final whistle.
Van Dijk agreed and handed over the shirt and this could be a sign of the recognition of the Norwegian.
Berge signing would be worth the risk for United
Whilst there may be some collective frustration that United have not been able to sign Ugarte and instead pivoting to a Championship midfielder, it is worth the risk.
Take Liverpool for example, the Reds signed Andy Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum when they were both in the EFL Championship and United should follow this example.
Berge’s style of play would fit United and the Norwegian could be the perfect partner for Kobbie Mainoo.
With Burnley back in the EFL Championship and reportedly open to selling, according to The Athletic, United may be able to get a deal done for relatively cheap.
