West Ham United start talks to sign Man Utd-linked star, it could be a big problem for Erik ten Hag

Manchester United are hoping to sign a new full back this month but Aaron Wan-Bissaka may be left in limbo.

Erik ten Hag has been able to add a new centre back and striker to his Manchester United squad this summer.

Joshua Zirkzee signed from Bologna as United’s first signing of the window offered another attacking option.

United then secured a major coup as defender Leny Yoro signed on the dotted line, leaving Lille for a move to Old Trafford.

That was a great start to the window but United have been unable to build on that so far.

Chido Obi-Martin is set to arrive from Arsenal but the 16-year-old is one for the future – and senior incomings may take something of a hit.

West Ham United may move on from Aaron Wan-Bissaka

United do need to move some players out of the club in order to unlock incoming business.

One player who looked set to leave United was right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is into the final year of his contract.

Wan-Bissaka had been expected to join West Ham United and return to London five years after joining United from Crystal Palace.

There may yet be a problem in that regard though as West Ham may have moved on to another target.

Mundo Deportivo claim that West Ham have started to make a move for Girona star Arnau Martinez.

It’s stated that West Ham have contacted Martinez’s agents to initiate a move and want him to make the switch to London.

Martinez helped Girona qualify for the Champions League and may be a somewhat familiar name to United fans.

Reports back in January suggested that United were interested in bringing Martinez to Old Trafford.

United were scouting Martinez back in October and he appears to have been on the radar for a while.

Martinez may now head to West Ham though – and leave United with a problem.

Manchester United face a problem

United have been looking to offload Wan-Bissaka in order to secure a deal for Noussair Mazraoui.

The Bayern Munich ace is United’s top target at full back given that he can play on the right or left side.

Yet if West Ham now move on from Wan-Bissaka, United could be effectively stuck with the former Palace man with time in the transfer window running out.

United would have to park a deal for Mazraoui and hopefully find a suitor for Wan-Bissaka before the window slams shut.

That is not an ideal situation for United and whilst both deals looked close last week, West Ham’s move for Martinez poses a potential issue.

Of course, West Ham may be playing games here and teasing a move for Martinez in order to force through a deal for Wan-Bissaka, but news of their interest is a concern.
