Serhou Guirassy has turned down a new contract at Stuttgart as Manchester United hold talks to bring the Bundesliga sensation to the premier League for a bargain £15 million in the January transfer window.
More often than not, prolific centre-forwards tend to verge on the unattainable during the winter window. Especially for clubs such as Manchester United who, according to reports, will likely to be restricted to short-term loans or bargain buys as they grapple with a tricky financial situation.
Ivan Toney, for instance, is far too expensive at £100 million. Marcos Leonardo is talented but unproven. Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, meanwhile, could be another Ruud van Nistelrooy or the second coming of Antony.
Serhou Guirassy, then, feels like an opportunity too good to miss, even if there are concerns over whether his stunning recent form is sustainable or merely a purple patch.

Manchester United in talks for Serhou Guirassy
Guirassy has a £15 million release clause in his contract. When you consider that he has already scored 18 goals in 14 games this season for high-flying Stuttgart, you won’t be surprised to learn that Manchester United are not the only club looking to trigger that clause, with Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan among the Frenchman’s other suitors.
According to BILD reporter Christian Falk, Stuttgart attempted to tie Guirassy down to a new deal. One which would have removed that pesky 17.5 million euro clause. But with the late-blooming striker keen to strike while the oven is hot and while his form his fierce, Guirassy was never likely to take Stuttgart up on their offer.
“Serhou Guirassy has rejected a new offer,” Falk writes on X. “VFB Stuttgart tried to buy out his release clause.
“Guirassy is ready for the next step. Interested clubs (include) Manchester United, Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund.”
18 goals in 14 games
According to Tuttomercatoweb, United held talks with Guirassy’s camp last week. The Guinea international, who has caught the eye of Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace in the past, broke Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record after scoring 11 times after just seven games this season.
Guirassy, also linked with Man United by The Guardian, would give Ten Hag an experienced competitor for Rasmus Hojlund, while freeing up Anthony Martial to leave.
