Manchester United have held talks to sign ‘phenomenal’ 16-goal striker

Manchester United held talks with Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy this week with the Premier League giants eyeing up a potential £15 million striker bargain ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to Tuttomercatoweb, the Red Devils emerging as one of AC Milan’s big rivals for the centre-forward’s signature.

Serhou Guirassy, the report adds, is certainly not averse to a new challenge in Serie A. But nor is he slamming down the shutters on the Premier League. Far from it. In fact, during an interview with The Guardian, Guirassy appeared to admit that he would relish the chance to make his name in England, and such comments will not have gone unnoticed at Old Trafford as Manchester United consider triggering the £15 million release clause in his Stuttgart contract.

Manchester United in Serhou Guirassy talks

United, TMW add, had contact with Guirassy’s camp on Tuesday too. The report states: “The competition is fierce, given that in the last few hours there have also been contacts with Manchester United.”

The late-blooming number nine, a target for the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace earlier in his career, is in scintillating form right now. A Panenka penalty clipped down the middle during Stuttgart’s 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen over the weekend was his 16th goal in just nine Bundesliga starts in 2023/24.

Only (guess who?) Harry Kane has scored more.

“Everyone’s seen what phenomenal form Serhou has been in lately,” Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness smiles.

“He is in the form of his life in my opinion. He is incredibly strong. We hope he carries on like this.”

Competition for Rasmus Hojlund

Guirassy, should he end up at Manchester United, would ease the goalscoring burden on a 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund while offering Erik ten Hag a more mobile option in attack than the perma-crocked Anthony ‘mannequin’ Martial.

Man United are also keen on Santos’ Marcos Leonardo. But Guirassy’s greater experience and exceptional current form – coupled with his £15 million price-tag – will do his hopes of a potential once-in-a-lifetime move no harm at all.
