Manchester United’s interest could see Serhou Guirassy finally move to the Premier League after approaches from Arsenal, West Ham United and Crystal Palace in recent years.
Beware the Bundesliga.
Manchester United have been burnt before when signing attackers from Germany’s top flight but, even after their fingers were singled by Jadon Sancho and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, interest in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy remains.
The rumours broke in Guirassy’s homeland of France on Thursday night, and were cemented by The Guardian on Friday. The well-travelled centre-forward has a very affordable £15 million release clause in his contract and that, it seems, could offset any concerns over a purple patch which – while admittedly staggering – feels worryingly unsustainable.

Manchester United eye Serhou Guirassy
Guirassy has a remarkable 15 goals in just eight Bundesliga starts. A tally which would have almost been enough to win the Golden Boot in 2022/23. The elegant frontman is not just a great goalscorer at present but a scorer of great goals too. Sublime chips, long-range rockets, Guirassy has done it all over the last few months.
And while the prospect of a striker in such form being provided ammunition by Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and co may get the mouth watering, the struggles of Sancho and co provides a reminder of the gulf in class which exists (particularly with regards to defensive organisation) between the Premier League and Germany’s top flight.
As Planet Football point out, Guirassy’s tally of 15 goals from an XG of around eight, meanwhile, is the greatest overperformance of any player in Europe at present.
Arsene Wenger wanted him at Arsenal
This, meanwhile, is not the first time the 27-year-old has caught the eye of clubs in England. Crystal Palace and West Ham showed an interest before he joined Rennes in 2020, as confirmed by the president of Amiens.
TalkSPORT, meanwhile, report that Arsenal were ‘prepared to pay around £1 million’ for Guirassy from Lille, Arsene Wenger impressed by a youngster who could have been one of his final signings at the Emirates.
Guirassy, at the time, was a little-known 20-year-old who would have arrived at Arsenal under relatively minimal pressure to perform right off the bat. You certainly could not say the same if Guirassy ends up joining Manchester United as statistically the most lethal centre-forward in European football.
