Sofyan Amrabat had been linked with a return to Manchester United this summer but he has now agreed a deadline day deal elsewhere.
The Red Devils were on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer and while he was never the top target, a return for Sofyan Amrabat was considered.
However, United have now agreed to sign Manuel Ugarte to solve their midfield issues, and the Uruguayan star is set to be announced as a deadline day signing.
Amrabat joined United on a loan deal last season but the club decided not to exercise the option to buy him this summer.
He made 30 appearances across all competitions for United but didn’t live up to expectations. He has now completed a move to join up with former United boss Jose Mourinho.
Sofyan Amrabat set to complete deadline day move
According to Sky Sports, Amrabat is set to travel for a medical in Turkey ahead of a move to Fenerbahce.
The 28-year-old Morocco international is set to join up with Mourinho and former United midfielder Fred who scored his career-first hat-trick this week.
United did consider a move for Amrabat but Ugarte was always the club’s first-choice target and a £42million deal has now been agreed with PSG.
Everton also made an approach for Amrabat, but he will move to Turkey instead of making a return to the Premier League.
Sofyan Amrabat will face Man United this season
While Amrabat did not complete a return to Old Trafford this summer, he will face his former teammates in Europe this season.
In the 2024/25 Europa League draw, United have drawn Fenerbahce as one of their eight opponents in the competition’s new format.
United are set to travel to Turkey to face Fenerbahce in the competition, with the dates of the fixture set to be announced over the next 24 hours.
It means a reunion with Mourinho and Fred is also on the horizon.
