Ruben Amorim’s suggestions that the current Manchester United team are the ‘worst in the club’s history’ proves just how difficult things at Old Trafford are at the moment.
Winning just one of their last eight matches, in all competitions, Amorim is already feeling the pressure.
Sitting 13th in the Premier League after 22 matches, just 10 above 18th-placed Ipswich Town, United must improve immediately or risk being dragged into a relegation battle.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 12 | 22 | 6 | 9 | 7 | 25 | 28 | -3 | 27 | |
| 13 | 22 | 7 | 5 | 10 | 27 | 32 | -5 | 26 | |
| 14 | 22 | 7 | 5 | 10 | 27 | 43 | -16 | 26 |
Given his side’s obvious struggles, Amorim has been forced to assess his options with the United owners willing to make some drastic changes.
Making nearly every player available for transfer, including Marcus Rashford, who wants to join Barcelona, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to complete multiple deals as he scrambles to restore the side’s diminishing reputation, and for one player, in particular, that could mean making a summer exit.

Patrick Dorgu transfer could force Luke Shaw sale
Improving Amorim’s options at full-back is a priority, and although United have already been linked with several left-backs, it seems Leece left-back Patrick Dorgu is the player of choice.
Dorgu, who has excellent stamina, is wanted at Old Trafford to help the side play to the United manager’s wing-back system.
Should the young Denmark international make the switch, Luke Shaw could be heading for the exit.
According to GiveMeSport, Amorim is prepared to sell Shaw at the end of the season if clubs express enough interest between now and then.
Shaw joined from Southampton in 2014, and following David De Gea’s exit last summer, became the club’s longest-serving player.
Therefore, it goes without saying that the defender’s proposed sale at the end of the campaign would mark the end of an era.
Shaw’s injury record makes Man United future impossible
Amorim’s system relies heavily on mobile and physically durable flying wing-backs, and unfortunately for Shaw, “physically durable” is not a term he is familiar with.
The 29-year-old has missed 74 matches due to injury for club and country since the beginning of last year.
| Luke Shaw Injuries | From | Until | Games Missed |
| Unknown | Dec 3, 2024 | Ongoing | 12 |
| Calf | Aug 11, 2024 | Nov 8, 2024 | 20 |
| Knee | Aug 1, 2024 | Oct 20, 2024 | 16 |
| Muscle | Feb 18, 2024 | Jun 10, 2024 | 22 |
| Thigh | Dec 24, 2023 | Jan 24, 2024 | 4 |
Simply out, Shaw’s record with injuries and fitness is abysmal.
He has been ruled out since November with a lower leg injury, and although he could return next month, Amorim will know he cannot rely on the England international to be a mainstay in his squad.
Considering all of this, it comes as no surprise to hear United’s willingness to let him leave.
Come the summertime, Shaw will have two years left on his contract and could bring in a decent fee from any club willing to gamble on him.
