Manchester United legend Roy Keane is often a harsh critic but he is a big fan of the club’s latest transfer target.
Strengthening the midfield is not a top priority for Manchester United this summer, but if an opportunity arises, the Red Devils could do with a Roy Keane-esque player.
Ruben Amorim wants more physicality in his side heading into the 2025/26 season, and his 3-4-2-1 system relies on having two hard-working midfielders.
Reports suggest Amorim wants an “athletic” midfielder once a deal for Bryan Mbeumo is wrapped up.
United are showing interest in Douglas Luiz as part of a swap deal with Jadon Sancho at Juventus, and the Brazilian fits the profile that Amorim is looking for.

Roy Keane is a big fan of Man United target Douglas Luiz
With Juventus in talks for Sancho, the Italian outfit are reportedly offering several players as part of a potential swap deal – including Luiz.
The 27-year-old made a £42m move to Juventus in 2024 after spending five years at Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
During his time in Birmingham, Keane piled praise on Luiz for his performances in the Premier League.
“He turns up every week this player,” Keane said in 2024. “Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.
“He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe. In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball, very, very good.”
Douglas Luiz could be long-term Casemiro replacement
Casemiro played a big role in the second half of United’s 2024/25 campaign, but at 33 years old, the Red Devils need to forge a succession plan.
It looks likely that Casemiro will see out his contract, which expires next summer, meaning a replacement will be needed sooner rather than later.
Signing Luiz this summer would mean that the Brazil international could spend one year learning from Casemiro at Old Trafford before he inevitably departs.
United already have a defensive-minded midfielder in Manuel Ugarte, but there have been questions asked about his quality in possession.

In contrast, Luiz is brilliant at progressing play, and he has already proven that he is more than capable of handling the pace and power of the Premier League.
If the Brazilian is offered as part of a Sancho swap, Ineos could kill two birds with one stone and strengthen Amorim’s midfield at the same time.
