Not even a £180 million offer would tempt Manchester United to sell Paul Pogba right now, ESPN report.
European transfer windows are now open, raising the possibility that Real Madrid or Juventus could still try to sign the France international.
It is unlikely either side have the funds, having failed to submit serious offers for Pogba all summer.
The Telegraph reported earlier this summer that United had put a value of £160 million on Pogba.
Now even more than that would not sway United to sell, because the chance to sign a replacement this summer is gone.
Obvious decision
Its a no-brainer from United to take this stance. Selling him at this juncture would be incredibly poor strategy.
United have dealt with the Pogba situation well, and the asking price is fair in this inflated market.
There is one criticism though, that the club should be buying a potential replacement beforehand.
This might help even convince Pogba to stay, playing with better players, and it is just good planning.
If he is sold one day, clubs will hike up prices of their own players, as Leicester found out the hard way after selling Harry Maguire and failing to sign a replacement.
Even at above £180 million, its unlikely United would sell, although this should be a moot point, given clubs’ inability to meet a cheaper price tag this summer.
In fact ESPN‘s report states United feel there is a good chance of retaining Pogba next summer too, suspecting no club can meet the midfielder’s asking price.
Pogba began the season well, with two assists in a game where he was far from his best.
As we noted earlier this week, if he continues to perform well this season, his price tag could shoot up further. It certainly won’t be dropping.
