Midfielder aware of Manchester United links but he’s ‘not working on’ transfer

Feyenoord ace Quinten Timber is aware of reports linking him with Premier League giants Manchester United but insists he is ‘not working on’ a move away from the Eredvisie champions.

After another disappointing Antony display during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup calamity – and with Sofyan Amrabat not exactly thriving either as Erik ten Hag’s midfield was washed away by the Newcastle tide – you can almost sense the collective eye roll as reports emerge linking Manchester United with another Eredivisie player.

According to 90Min, there is interest from United in Quinten Timber.

The 22-year-old twin brother of Arsenal’s former Ajax ace Jurrien – himself mentioned often in conjunction with a move to Old Trafford – Timber was a driving force behind Feyenoord’s title-winning 2022/23 campaign, breaking the lines from deep with those trademark bursting runs into the penalty area.

The Netherlands U21 international became Feyenoord’s record signing when he joined in a £9 million deal from Ten Hag’s former employers FC Utrecht, and reports suggesting that the former could join the latter at Old Trafford have not passed him by.

“I’ve seen something (about those Premier League rumours). Yes. I think it’s a good sign for me that I’m doing well. But I’m not working on (securing a move away from Feyenoord),” Timber explains to the Hand in Hand magazine.

“I’m happy that I can now play and am fit. For the time being, I can only get better here at Feyenoord. I feel that I can do even better. There is still a lot of room for improvement. In the near future, I will mainly focus on that and winning titles.

“Feyenoord wanted me and did their best for me. That is only positive for me. They saw the potential in me. It is up to me to show how good I am.”

Another Eredivisie addition for Erik ten Hag?

Timber could add useful qualities to an underperforming United midfield. He is an excellent ball-carrier, and a dynamic, hard-running presence in the centre of the park. But as many of Ten Hag’s Eredivisie expats continue to underperform – with the exception of cult hero Lisandro Martinez – a disillusioned fanbase could be forgiven for feeling a little wary, even if Timber has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months.

“He has improved enormously,” former Feyenoord midfielder Johan Boskamp tells RTL7. “When he was very little, he played with his brother. Back then, I thought ‘Jurrien) is better’.

“Now, he (Quinten) is moving up to another level. Really, really good.”
