Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino could miss out on the chance to replace Jadon Sancho at Premier League giants Manchester United with an ACL rupture potentially keeping him out of action for eight months.

Erik ten Hag’s list of potential Jadon Sancho successors might just have got that little bit smaller.

The Muppetiers channel, one of the best sources for all things Manchester United these days, had been pushing Yeremy Pino’s name for a while now.

“His representatives have offered him to United,” they said back in August, mentioning the speedy Spain international alongside the likes of Antonio Nusa, Nico Williams, Serge Gnabry and even Rennes ace Martin Terrier.

“(Yeremy Pino) was on the list of right-wingers the club was keeping an eye on.”

Manchester United like Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino

That interest, however, can now be placed on the backburner. Barcelona’s overworked Gavi not the only Spanish starlet consigned to a long old spell on the sidelines thanks to a dreaded anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“Yeremy Pino underwent surgery on Monday on a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” reads a statement on the Villarreal website, the 21-year-old unlikely to feature again this season (Marca).

“Everyone at Villarreal CF sends their best wishes and encouragement to Yeremy Pino, while wishing the player a healthy recovery. We are all with you, Yere!”

Season over for Spain star

Manchester United were also linked with Pino back in 2022, before Ten Hag broke the bank on Antony (AS). Direct, forever positive and the youngest ever player to hit a hat-trick in a single half of a La Liga game, Pino has a £70 million release clause in his contract. But no one will be triggering that until it becomes apparent how well he recovers from an injury likely to hit a player to relies on his pace and acceleration particularly hard.

Sancho, meanwhile, is unlikely to have any sort of a future at Old Trafford, that very public dispute with Ten Hag still unresolved.
