Manchester United continue to be linked with potential goalkeeping signings as Ruben Amorim looks to reshape his squad.

A big summer is surely on the horizon for Manchester United with the transfer window already moving into focus – two months before the season ends.

Attacking additions must be a focus for United whilst Christian Eriksen’s imminent departure will surely see a midfielder or two arrive.

Amorim wants two new goalkeepers at United with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton potentially more at-risk than Andre Onana as things stand.

If Heaton leaves United, another homegrown goalkeeping option will be required – and the EFL market could be prioritised.

Manchester United want Blackburn Rovers ace

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports that United are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.

It’s suggested that the search for a homegrown goalkeeper is on and Pears has popped onto United’s radar.

Tony Coton is believed to have been watching Pears ahead of a potential summer move.

Coton has been looking towards the EFL of late and Pears is not the only name on his radar.

United also like Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson thanks to Coton’s scouting but Pears is another option.

Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin has been linked with United but a homegrown option may be the top priority.

Who is United target Aynsley Pears?

Pears hails from Durham and is actually the son of a former United goalkeeper.

Stephen Pears started his career with United and made four league appearances between 1979 and 1985.

Pears senior went on to rack up appearances for Middlesbrough and that’s where his son emerged too, joining the club at the age of just nine.

The 26-year-old came up through the Boro ranks and played 24 league games before being sold to Blackburn In 2020.

Pears is now on the cusp of making his 100th appearance for Rovers and has been a virtual ever-present this season.

A former England youth international, Pears has been through some ups and downs at Rovers.

2024 saw Pears commit an unbelievable mistake, slicing the ball into his own net for an ‘insane’ own goal, as dubbed by Sky Sports.

Blackburn captain Lewis Travis has praised Pears as ‘quality’ on Instagram though with the goalkeeper appreciated by teammates.

Rovers fans may be surprised by the United links, but the idea would be for him to offer homegrown cover just like Heaton – though it’s unclear whether Pears would be interested in such a role.
