The Ruben Amorim era has started at Manchester United and it’s no surprise to see potential signings already being linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans probably can’t wait for this international break to be over.

Ruben Amorim has finally arrived in Manchester this week and is ready to start work as the new United boss.

Amorim was confirmed as United’s new boss on 1 November, but he stayed with Sporting until the international break.

The 39-year-old is now ready and raring to go with the clash against Ipswich Town a week on Sunday now one of the most eagerly-anticipated United games of the season.

Manchester United linked with Sporting wonderkid

Amorim will just be looking to learn as much as he can about his United squad during this international break.

A number of United stars are away on international duty though, so Amorim will take some time to really figure out this squad.

Transfers are unlikely to be at the forefront of Amorim’s mind as a result, but that doesn’t stop the rumour mill from churning.

Marca now suggest that both clubs from Manchester – United and City – have joined Barcelona and Real Madrid in watching Las Palmas midfielder Dario Essugo.

Essugo is currently on loan at Las Palmas from Sporting, with Amorim sanctioning the deal for Essugo to spend the season in Spain.

Now shining in La Liga, Essugo is attracting major interest and is thought to have a release clause of around €60million (£50million).

19-year-old Essugo is the latest Sporting wonderkid to be linked with United as Amorim would love to sign winger Geovany Quenda too.

Who is Dario Essugo?

Essugo hails from Lisbon and joined the Sporting ranks at the age of just nine.

The midfielder made his way up through the ranks and signed his first professional deal with the club in March 2021 – before he had even turned out for Sporting at Under-23 level.

Essugo made his first-team debut at 16 years and six days of age, becoming the youngest-ever debutant in Sporting’s history in the process.

Another record fell in December 2021 as Essugo became Portugal’s youngest player to ever appear in the Champions League, featuring against Erik ten Hag’s Ajax in December 2021.

As if that wasn’t enough, Essugo then became Sporting’s youngest-ever starter, eclipsing Luis Figo by starting against Arouca at 16 years, 11 months and 17 days.

Sporting loaned Essugo out to Chaves earlier this year before sanctioning a deal with Las Palmas, where he has really started to show his potential.

A defensive midfielder who can play for Angola or Portugal on the international stage, Essugo has caught Amorim’s eye in the past – hence those record-breaking displays.

Amorim told Magg that Essugo is a ‘very talented’ player and praised him for showing ‘great quality’ in training sessions.

First-team chances were hard to come by due to Sporting’s midfield options but Amorim clearly sees big potential in Essugo – and may fancy a United reunion.
