Manchester United finalising terms for Patrick Dorgu deal as Italian reporter claims final fee

Manchester United are closing in on a first January signing as Ruben Amorim prepares to strengthen a key area of his squad.

The January transfer deadline is now less than a week away and Manchester United appear ready to strike.

United’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion appeared to spark United into life after a quiet start to the January window.

Ruben Amorim needs a specialist left wing back and one man has become United’s clear top target – Patrick Dorgu.

The Dane isn’t a household name just yet but has shown huge potential during his time with Lecce.

Now considered one of the top young left wing backs in Europe, Dorgu looks set for a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United finalising Patrick Dorgu deal

United held talks to sign Dorgu last week but have found Lecce a tough nut to crack.

The Serie A side are fighting against relegation and, understandably, don’t want to lose Dorgu right now.

United have kept pushing though and a deal appears to be moving forward.

Reports overnight suggested that United are confident of signing Dorgu and hope to have a deal in place very quickly.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio now claims that United are finalising terms with Lecce today.

Di Marzio claims that the deal will be worth €30million (£25million) plus €7.5million (£6.3million), bringing the deal to just shy of £31.5million.

Intriguingly, Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to suggest that the deal will actually be worth less than the fee Di Marzio is claiming.

Either way, United appear to have tempted Lecce into a deal for less than the initial £34million demands for Dorgu.

Don’t be surprised if Manchester United continue Alvaro Fernandez pursuit

United being on the verge of signing Dorgu is a major boost right now nad provides Amorim with a natural left-footer at left wing back.

Diogo Dalot hasn’t been a natural option in that role and Dorgu will hopefully provide quality down that flank for years to come.

Yet with Tyrell Malacia struggling for action, we would not be surprised to see United add another left wing back this summer.

Diego Leon is arriving from Cerro Porteno but is more of a long-term option at left wing back.

Another signing could join Dorgu at Old Trafford this summer and Alvaro Fernandez may fit the bill.

United have a buy-back clause on Fernandez and can re-sign the Benfica talent for around £16million.

Reports suggest that United were ready to move for Fernandez this month if a Dorgu deal couldn’t be thrashed out.

United are now set to sign Dorgu but adding Fernandez this summer is something which may still happen in order to give Amorim two natural left-footers at wing back.
