Manchester United’s need to strengthen in the January transfer window has led to speculation over a Barcelona star.
An opportunistic signing is being floated in the media, with Manchester United being linked to Spain star Dani Olmo.
Olmo was a key part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning squad, sealing a transfer move to Barcelona in the summer too. However, Barcelona’s difficult finances are once again prompting difficult questions, with Olmo included.
The Mail report La Liga are blocking Olmo’s registration, with his previous approval only granted on a temporary basis.
Olmo’s agent has been in Manchester, the newspaper claim, exploring alternative options for the player in case he is forced to leave Barcelona – although he insists he is just there for holidays.

Manchester United fans on Dani Olmo
The speculation linking Manchester United to Dani Olmo is purely speculative at this stage – but if there was a chance of this happening, it would be smart for the club to explore it.
The possibility of Olmo pitching up at Old Trafford was received overwhelmingly positively by United fans.
One fan wrote: “This is the news I have been looking forward to, this guy can be that playmaker we are lacking.”
A second added: “Very interesting considering Olmo’s situation at Barca. Another creative player that could add goals to this team. God knows we need it!!”
A third wrote: “That’s an opportunity we cannot miss. Versatile. Technical. 26 years old. Would be a brilliant addition.”
Another posted hopefully: “IF Just IF we manage to sign Olmo and Osimhen in January while shipping off Rashford Would be unreal!!”
“That would be the best signing for MAN UTD since 2022. I hope it happens, they definitely need a world class player,” another fan agreed.
While another added simply: “Perfect replacement for Bruno.”
Dani Olmo would be ideal fit for United
Manchester United’s biggest problem this season has been scoring goals, and Dani Olmo would fit seamlessly into Ruben Amorim’s system.
Mason Mount’s latest injury has highlighted the need to sign a replacement, and Olmo could become an instant starter.
Olmo is also four years younger than Bruno Fernandes, a player who United have been too reliant upon for too long, and this would be a look to the future, while also providing a player capable of making an instant impact.
Manchester United were linked to Dani Olmo back in 2019 when he was playing for Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb.
This season for Barcelona in the 11 La Liga games he has been able to play, he has scored five goals, and he has one goal and one assist in the Champions League.
In the summer he scored three goals and provided two assists with Spain winning the European Championships.
