Manchester United still have problems at left back and could look to bring a former player back to Old Trafford in 2025.
Left back was a problem position for Manchester United last season and the issues continue this term..
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both suffered problems last term and are yet to feature this season.
Shaw remains sidelined through injury whilst Malacia hasn’t played a single game for United for more than a year.
Diogo Dalot has filled in there this season but his defending against Tottenham Hotspur was recently slammed.
United may need to invest in another left back in 2025 and a familiar name is being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United linked with Alvaro Carreras
Some United fans were left baffled earlier this year.
United decided to allow Alvaro Carreras to join Benfica on loan, which ended up becoming permanent.
The Spaniard was hailed as ‘brilliant’ at Preston North End and shown promise at Benfica before finalising his move.
Fans may know the left back by Alvaro Fernandez, but he has since since decided to go by Carreras.
Carreras has impressed for Benfica this season, especially in the Champions League, with United fans praising his display against Atletico Madrid.
The 21-year-old is now attracting interest as O Jogo report that Barcelona and Real Madrid both want to sign Carreras.
It’s even stated that United are ‘closely monitoring’ Carreras for a potential return to Old Trafford.
The report claims that all three clubs want left backs for the future and are eyeing up Carreras as a potential solution.
United clause explained
Returning to Real Madrid may appeal to Carreras but United do have an option to bring him back to the club.
O Jogo claim that United have a buy-back clause as part of the deal which saw Carreras join Benfica for just €6million (£5million).
Benfica placed a £42m million release clause in the left back’s contract but United’s buy-back will surely be much less than that.
If Carreras continues to impress in the Champions League – and United’s current left backs continue to struggle with injury woes – then he will become truly impossible to ignore.
Beating Barcelona and Real won’t be easy but United will hope that this buy-back clause will help any potential pursuit of Carreras.
