Emil Riis and Ryan Lowe rave about United youngster Alvaro Fernandez
Preston North End duo Emil Riis and Ryan Lowe have lavished Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez with praise.
The 19-year-old has made an impressive start to life in the Championship having made the season-long loan switch to Deepdale in July.
The former Real Madrid youngster has established himself as a regular under Lilywhites boss Lowe, and the talented left footer registered his first assist in the second tier of English football last night.
In front of former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, Fernandez played a crucial role in Preston ousting West Bromwich Albion, who are managed by former Reds centre-back Steve Bruce, 1-0 at Deepdale.

Following his eye-catching performance against the Baggies, Preston’s number two was awarded the EFL man of the match award.
It was Fernandez’s pinpoint cross which allowed Preston striker Riis to clinch the three points for the home side.
Speaking after Preston’s win, Riis was full of praise for the Spain Under-19 international and touched upon how Fernandez’s cross made his job easy: “Yeah it was easy, I just guided it into the goal, I didn’t need to do much, so it was a great cross and he’s a brilliant player.
“He just needs to keep going.”
Embarking on his first loan spell away from United, Fernandez now has three assists from nine games for Preston.
The attack-minded wing-back is part of a defence that has claimed an impressive nine clean sheets from 12 Championship games.
As well as receiving praise from Preston’s goalscorer, Fernandez impressed Preston’s manager Lowe.
“Ball slid in, Emil in the right place where I’m going to say he probably would be just outside the six-yard box in the last few weeks because he’s been hungry for a goal,” Lowe said.
“I said get yourself in the right areas and you’ll find the net because we’ve got good players like Alvaro who can put balls on a plate for you, and he certainly did that tonight, so I’m really pleased.”
Fernandez has started the last three Championship matches and he’ll be targeting a fourth when Preston travel to second placed Norwich City on Saturday.
