Serhou Guirassy release clause explained as Man Utd launch enquiry

Manchester United have launched an enquiry into signing Stuttgart goal machine Serhou Guirassy ahead of the January transfer window.

United splashed the cash on a new striker over the summer as Rasmus Hojlund arrived from Atalanta.

The Dane clearly needs some work over the coming years but the signs are pretty encouraging.

Another striker to support Hojlund would be ideal given even after Anthony Martial’s goal against Everton last weekend.

We saw rumours surrounding Timo Werner earlier this week and another Bundesliga striker is now in the mix.

Manchester United launch Serhou Guirassy enquiry

Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna that United are now interested in signing Stuttgart hitman Serhou Guirassy.

It’s claimed that United have now enquired into a deal for Guirassy with the January transfer window fast approaching.

Aouna claims that Newcastle United – as well as Italian sides AC Milan and Roma – are also interested in Guirassy.

The Guinean striker has been one of the sensations of the 2023-24 season so far, smashing 15 goals in just 10 Bundesliga games.

Guirassy, 27, has been absolutely red-hot this season and has been hailed as ‘phenomenal’ by boss Sebastian Hoeness.

There may be some fears that Guirassy is just in a purple patch after a fairly nomadic career to date.

Guirassy’s goal record is impossible to ignore though and he could be the man to offer support to Hojlund in United’s attack.

Guirassy release clause explained

The major appeal with Guirassy will be that he has a release clause to leave Stuttgart in his contract.

As noted by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg in October, Guirassy can leave Stuttgart for around €20million (£17million) in January.

Plettenberg mentioned then that Guirassy has ‘no intention’ of leaving in January and would want to wait until the summer.

United weren’t in the picture at that point and Guirassy may well feel that a move to Old Trafford is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

We backed a potential move for Guirassy in October and that price tag would allow United to add another goalscorer without breaking the bank.

This certainly makes sense for United and it sounds like a move is already in the works ahead of the transfer window reopening.
