Manchester United claimed to be nearing new stance over ‘number one target’

Manchester United are now unlikely to bid for Harry Kane, despite him once being deemed as their number one target this summer.

The England captain has been described as Manchester United’s ‘number one target’ this summer. United are looking for a striker to lead their line for the upcoming season and there are few better than Harry Kane.

However, he will not come cheap, with speculation suggesting Daniel Levy will want up to £200m for the 29-year-old, despite him only having one year left on his contract.

The astronomical cost of the forward put doubts over the Red Devils acquiring his signature, but further news has developed as to why Erik ten Hag may be reluctant to even submit a bid.

Manchester United now unlikely to bid for Harry Kane

According to Sky Sports, it’s unlikely Manchester United will make a move for Harry Kane this summer as Tottenham do not want to sell the striker – and especially not to a Premier League rival.

This is understandable. Kane scored a whopping 30 goals in a struggling Spurs side last campaign. He would completely transform any side he joined, which thus means if it is a Premier League club, they’ll likely perform better than Tottenham.

United do have other options. Victor Osimhen is a name that United seem keen on, but he could end up costing even more than Kane with The Mirror reporting he’ll be £140m.

A player that does look increasingly more likely is Atalanta’s 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund, with The Athletic reporting that the player is eager to make the move to United now.

One thing’s pretty clear, United will most likely end up with a new striker leading the line next season. However, who it actually will be is still majorly up in the air. Only time will tell, but this is a huge blow in the quest to secure Harry Kane’s signature.
