Manchester United attacker set to frustrate supporters and remain at club in January

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial now looks set to stay at the club this January transfer window, according to reports.

Anthony Martial looked set for a January move away from Manchester United with the Red Devils deciding not to extend the former AS Monaco’s striker’s stay at the club with a one-year deal.

This led to multiple European clubs expressing their interest in the forward including Turkish side Fenerbahce, who already signed one United player in the summer Brazilian midfielder Fred, who were ready to offer £7 million for the Frenchman.

However, there has now reportedly been a fresh twist in the saga as Martial’s preference has emerged about a potential move.

Martial’s future

According to a report from Sky Sports, Martial intends to remain at the club in the winter window and fight for his place before potentially leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer.

The Frenchman has even rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League, as well as Fenerbahce and French side Marseille, who signed Eric Bailly on a free transfer last summer before he moved to Besiktas.

Martial staying at the club shuts down any possibility that the Red Devils could get money for the struggling Frenchman as him remaining at the club means United will lose him for nothing.

It has been a torrid couple of seasons for the Frenchman who has been plagued by injury problems and it seems the right time for United to let the striker go.

Striker signing off

Another way Martial’s decision to stay at United could affect the Old Trafford club is their ability to sign a striker as a replacement for the Frenchman.

A loan deal had been sought after for Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting but the former AS Monaco striker’s decision may well put an end to these rumours.

Whether Martial remains at the club or not is irrelevant, United need to do all they can to sign a new forward. A forward that they can rely on consistently for the rest of the season is crucial and one who can replace Rasmus Hojlund when the Danish striker is struggling.
