Manchester United are expected to be one of England’s busiest clubs between now and the close of the January transfer window.
United’s owners are working to comply with the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability (PSR).
The majority of the United first team have been made available for transfer, including Marcus Rashford, who wants to join Barcelona.
And although fans should expect at least one high-profile departure this month, it is unlikely Ruben Amorim will bring in one of his top targets in the same window.

Ruben Amorim set for transfer disappointment
In need of reinforcements, especially in defence, which is why Amorim views Nuno Mendes as a ‘key transfer target’.
The pair worked together for a season at Sporting Lisbon before Mendes moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Knowing how Amorim likes his wing-backs to play, Mendes would undoubtedly offer more than Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw.

Unfortunately though, despite being one of the club’s top targets, Fabrizio Romano has warned fans United are unlikely to complete a deal in the winter window.
“Manchester United want a new player in that position, yes,” he told GiveMeSport.
“I think someone will leave United, at least one or two players. It’s difficult to go for a top player like Nuno Mendes in January, but they have more names on their list being monitored including Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, Denmark’s full-back.”
Even though it seems Mendes won’t be making the switch to Old Trafford anytime soon, Patrick Dorgu could be a welcome addition.
Patrick Dorgu could fill Nuno Mendes void
Currently at Leece, 20-year-old Dorgu would be a much cheaper option and one that is more likely to be available at the mid-way point in the season.
The Danish full-back, who also has experience playing a more advanced role, has represented his country on four occasions.
Clearly expected to develop further, Dorgu’s potential move to United could represent a change in the Red Devils’ transfer policies which include Sir Jim Ratcliffe trying to trim the club’s obscene wage bill.
Since being promoted to Leece’s first team in 2023, Dorgu, who has four-and-a-half years left on his contract, has directly contributed to seven goals in 55 games in all competitions.
