Manchester United might be planning some recruitment this January to solve the problem positions Ruben Amorim currently has within his team.
While not traditionally a month in which teams spend, Manchester United could be in a position where transfer business might be needed.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed United are hoping to sign a new midfielder in January, which would be to upgrade directly in an area that has caused problems this season so far.
United have also been linked with three wing-backs, with the current crop not quite nailing down the position for themselves.
With 2026 just a few months away, the transfer plans are coming into shape.

Manchester United’s transfer plans for January transfer window
With United’s priority positions for 2026 becoming clearer, the potential additions being considered are also shaping up.
Now, United in Focus understands, via Graeme Bailey, that the club are beginning to work on the January transfer window.
“As it stands, United are working on Ruben Amorim’s needs”, Bailey explains.
“Midfielder-wise, United are doing their work. We know they like Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and they have done work on Elliott Anderson, but January deals look unlikely for those.
“In terms of other more attainable options, Conor Gallagher is someone they like and is likely to move in the New Year.”
Then, on the right-wing-back position that Amorim seems keen to upgrade on, Bailey suggested Nahuel Molina.
“They are looking at right-wing-back options, seeing what is available. They do like Nahuel Molina. Argentina’s first-choice right-back, who loves getting forward. He is out of favour under Diego Simeone and one to keep an eye on, but he has interest from elsewhere, including Manchester City.”
Manchester United keen on signing Antoine Semenyo
While it is midfield and wing-back that are set to be prioritised in January, 2026 will also see United attempt to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, Bailey reveals.
“One name that refuses to go away for January is Antoine Semenyo – but he won’t be moving in January, according to Bournemouth, but United like him a lot, if there is a sniff of him going, they will be in the mix for sure.”
Semenyo could be perfect for Amorim’s system as a left wing-back, being the ultimate attacking threat to offer a more offensive option to Patrick Dorgu.
Semenyo is one of the Premier League’s best forwards who would be available to United. Alongside Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount, and Benjamin Sesko, there is no telling how good United’s attack would be.
