Manchester United are closing in on securing the first signing of 2025 with medical expected this weekend.

The 2025 January transfer window is expected to be a slow one for Manchester United unless some major sales can be made.

United are operating on a sell-to-buy basis, which Ruben Amorim is well aware of despite his desire for additions.

One area where the club can do business however is in signing young talents to bolster the young spine Ineos are building at the club.

A move for Sverre Nypan is being mulled over, but one young addition is on the verge of completing his move ahead of his medical this weekend.

Diego Leon expected at Carrington on Saturday

The arrival of Diego Leon has seemed imminent for over a month – with the Cerro Porteno president even revealing a deal was close.

The 17-year-old Paraguayan is a raw talent but has everything needed to become great with comparisons to Brazil and Real Madrid legend Marcelo.

Now, it seems the transfer is in its final stages with Paraguayan journalist Christian Perez claiming that Leon is set to travel to Manchester on Saturday.

The purpose of his visit will be to undergo his medical and get to know the club and his future teammates in advance of April when he can officially make the switch.

Leon will then head back to South American to rejoin the Paraguay U20 side which is heading to the South American Championship.

This is a very exciting addition, with Leon already seen celebrating his future move – however, given his age and raw ability, Leon is not a player for the now, but rather for the future.

Manchester United need a second left wing-back this month

United have been investing heavily in building towards the future over the past year and we can see it beginning to pay off with Chido Obi being fantastic and tipped for his senior United debut this season.

However, with left wing-back being such a huge problem area United cannot wait for the youngsters to break through. Ineos need to sign a solution immediately.

This is why links to Nuno Mendes are so exciting, while United are also interested in Milos Kerkez who is another top-drawer left wing-back and could prove to be excellent for Amorim.

A left wing-back who can attack would be a game-changer for United, with Diogo Dalot – albeit reliable – not a perfect fit for the position or role as he has struggled more often than not under Amorim.

In the future, we cannot wait to see Leon breaking through.
