Manchester United’s midfield plans for this summer are for a complete overhaul of the department, with three signings now being outlined.

With Casemiro’s Manchester United departure now weeks away, Ineos should really already be working to replace him as soon as the transfer window opens.

Kobbie Mainoo’s resurgence has meant that instead of two starters, United are looking for his long-term partner, with several key options rumoured.

However, it won’t just be the one signing, as United are also looking at two additional supplementary midfielders.

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild plans

This summer is more than just replacing Casemiro, because there is also a good chance Manuel Ugarte is sold. But even before these departures, United has a weak depth in midfield.

For this reason, United are planning to add three midfielders to the department, while Ineos also hopes the academy can bolster the ranks.

Now, the Daily Mail has claimed to know the categories that these three midfield additions will fall into.

United has a £150m budget set aside for the midfield, with each of the three having a specific budget planned.

While these are unlikely to be stuck to strictly, it gives an idea of what is attainable in each bracket.

United’s midfield rebuild is becoming clearer with Jason Wilcox target making sense

So now that the different levels of signing are revealed, it is clear that the Casemiro replacement will cost £80m this summer in United’s mind.

This likely leaves United with a handful of options who could realistically cost £80m.

The £40-50m signing includes countless exciting options.

Finally, United’s £20m signing is a head scratcher, as that won’t get you much in football nowadays besides a data signing like Senne Lammens.

Of these three possible options, Gomes and Hackney are likely to cost closer to £30m. While Jason Wilcox’s target Shea Charles, stands out as an obvious signing for the fourth midfielder role.

This explains the link, but United are crazy to think he would be better than Jacob Devaney or Jim Thwaites being promoted.
