Manchester United have just been handed a boost in the race to sign a player who has been compared with Luka Modric.
Ruben Amorim is now officially the head coach of Manchester United after his contract came into effect on Monday.
Amorim arrived in Manchester on Monday with his assistants, including 29-year-old maestro Carlos Fernandez. Amorim was pictured at Carrington meeting Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada.
The next 12 days will give Amorim a great chance to implement his ideas and tactics on the squad ahead of facing Ipswich and Kieran McKenna.
For Amorim, the focus will be solely on getting to grips with his new role and getting on the training ground. However, for the new footballing structure which Ineos put in place, plans for recruitment in 2025 will be underway.

Manchester United handed boost in Martin Baturina chase
With options in attacking midfield looking slim, United could soon turn to Croatian gem Martin Baturina.
The Dinamo Zagreb talent is attracting interest from some of Europe’s heavy-hitting clubs – and now Real Madrid has made their approach, according to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger.
Baturina however has rejected the chance to move to the Bernabeu but does want to make a move in 2025 to become a regular feature of a top team.
Manchester United are credited among the other three teams to be showing an interest, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. United have been credited with an interest in Baturina before, including a scouting trip.
However, Baturina views the Bundesliga as the perfect move – which would make it difficult for United. Although his price tag of around £20.6m would be very tempting.
Ruben Amorim could find Bruno Fernandes replacement
Baturina however would surely be tempted by an approach from United, with the Red Devils’ new head coach a manager who could have the perfect role for the Croatian.
Amorim’s tactical set-up could see two inside forwards deployed almost as attacking midfielders – a position Bruno Fernandes is likely to be utilised in.
Bruno is the club captain, however, in the next few seasons the club will be looking for a replacement and Baturina could be exactly that – with both sharing some similarities in their qualities.
| Stat 24/25 in league | Baturina | Fernandes |
| Assists | 6 | 3 |
| Goals | 1 | 2 |
| Chances created | 30 | 22 |
| Dribbles | 18 | 8 |
| Tackles | 8 | 19 |
| Duels won | 54 | 56 |
So in that Pedro Goncalves role for Sporting Lisbon, Baturina could be an excellent long-term option for United to bolster the ranks and eventually succeed Bruno.
