Manchester United and Barcelona are both interested in signing the same defender from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to reports in Germany.
The Red Devils are expected to reinforce key positions in the summer transfer window, including both the midfield and the defence ahead of next season.
Manchester United have been tipped to bring through the doors a new centre-back or full-back amid the major midfield rebuild under the Ineos regime at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been linked with Julian Ryerson in the past, but the 28-year-old Borussia Dortmund full-back is now on Barcelona’s transfer radar as well.

Why are Barcelona now targeting Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson amid Man Utd’s transfer links?
Barcelona, much like Manchester United, are keen to reinforce their key defensive options in the summer transfer window ahead of next season’s La Liga title defence.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, the La Liga club have identified Julian Ryerson as a suitable replacement for Barcelona and France defender Jules Kounde.
Barcelona have viewed Ryerson as a ‘cost-effective’ alternative and the Dortmund full-back, who can play as a wing-back, ‘fits’ their ‘profile perfectly’ for a transfer target.
Ryerson has been on United’s radar before and the former Union Berlin and Viking defender has been at German side Dortmund since 2023.

Borussia Dortmund are ready to let Julian Ryerson leave the club if Man Utd and Barcelona meet their set transfer valuation
Ryerson is under contract with Dortmund until 2028 and the defender has 24 assists and has netted seven times in 173 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
According to Goal, Dortmund are reportedly set to ‘demand a fee of at least’ £26m (€30m) for Ryerson if Man Utd or Barcelona come knocking for the defender.
United have mainly relied on Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu to play at full-back and have lacked major depth in the squad at times.
