Manchester United have identified Angus Gunn as a potential transfer target after Nottingham Forest released the experienced Scotland goalkeeper.
Over the course of the past year, Manchester United have settled on Senne Lammens as the first choice, but there is room for a new backup option if Altay Bayindir moves on this summer.
Moreover, Andre Onana is close to securing a second loan move to Trabzonspor. The 30-year-old spent the past season with the Turkish side, helping the club to secure a third-place finish in the Super Lig and win the Turkish Cup.
With all of this happening at Old Trafford in the background, it’s no wonder that there is a small group of goalkeeper targets emerging on United’s radar, including Karl Darlow, who is out of contract with Leeds next week.

Jason Wilcox can influence potential Angus Gunn deal
Angus Gunn is the latest goalkeeper linked to Man Utd.
The 30-year-old recently became a free agent after being released by Nottingham Forest, but that didn’t prevent him from playing a starting role for Scotland at the 2026 World Cup.
It remains to be seen if Scotland has done enough to reach the Round of 32, despite racking up just three points in the group phase.
According to The Sun, Gunn is one of the goalkeepers under consideration at United this summer. The report also mentions 35-year-old Darlow.
Gunn came through Man City’s academy when Jason Wilcox worked as a coach with the Blues.
Now, as United’s director of football, Wilcox could try to rekindle his relationship with Gunn by bringing the experienced goalkeeper to Old Trafford.
- ⚡️ NEWS IN BRIEF
Altay Bayindir’s World Cup journey ends in group phase
Although Bayindir didn’t make a single appearance for Turkey at the 2026 World Cup, he was still part of the squad that travelled to this summer’s biggest sporting festival.
This means Bayindir will get a mandatory three-week break, and he could make himself available for the majority of United’s pre-season.
Hopefully, Bayindir’s return means that he can finally sort out his future.
United will likely wait to sign a new goalkeeper until Bayindir departs, although Onana’s loan move back to Trabzonspor may speed things up.
