Manchester United’s pursuit of Mateus Fernandes is well-documented this summer, and now Ineos appears ready to take decisive steps to complete the signing.

West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is Manchester United’s current focus in the summer transfer window, with the upper price point set at £85m.

Spurs are rivalling United and are willing to pay more, complicating things slightly for Ineos. However, Fernandes prefers a move to United if given the choice.

Fernandes would be a fantastic signing for United, Premier League proven, and still so young, being two years junior to £130m man Elliot Anderson.

Now, despite uncertainty over the deal in recent weeks.

Manchester United ready to push to sign Mateus Fernandes

There has been some concern around Fernandes in recent weeks, with Spurs’ willingness to spend more throwing a spanner in the works.

But all along, there has been a confidence that Fernandes wants to play with Bruno Fernandes.

Now, from Fabrizio Romano’s office, journalist Matteo Moretto has explained that United are well and truly in the chase for Fernandes.

He claims that there have been new contacts made in the last few hours with the player, as United are now willing to improve the contractual offer they initially made.

United also plan to hold direct talks with West Ham, as Ineos look to push ahead in the race and make the signing ahead of Spurs.

These are the decisive steps to win the Fernandes race, and by now taking them, United are clearly ready to push on and get this done. Don’t be shocked to see quick advancements in the next week, ahead of pre-season starting.

Spurs never really stood a chance in the Fernandes race

It was bizarre to see Spurs trying to sign Fernandes, because they certainly wouldn’t be able to offer the sporting project of United.

Now that United are advancing, it could become clear that Jorge Mendes was using Spurs to try to force United’s hand.

Fernandes might have joined Spurs, but only if United walked away, and he was likely keeping the North London side as a fallback option in the event others were priced out.

But now that United are moving forward, there is likely only one option for Fernandes.

Price is the key factor, as United will want to structure any transfer, perhaps with a base fee lower, rising toward the Hammers’ valuation.
