Manchester United target Mateus Fernandes has already passed one new transfer rule introduced under Ineos ownership.

It is quickly becoming apparent that Manchester United will make up to three midfield signings this summer, and West Ham star Mateus Fernandes is towards the top of the shopping list.

Earlier this week, Fernandes impressed against Arsenal but ended up on the losing side. West Ham are now on the brink of relegation, and that could boost Ineos’ chances of signing the 21-year-old.

Fernandes has been recommended by Bruno Fernandes as an ideal signing, and the young Portugal international is ticking all the boxes ahead of a potential Old Trafford switch.

Why Mateus Fernandes is a perfect Ineos signing

Last season, Ruben Amorim explained a new transfer ‘rule’ that was introduced at United that put more focus on examining the attitude and personality of players before they were signed.

The quartet of Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko have all displayed an elite mentality, and most importantly, displayed a deep desire to represent United.

All four players rejected Champions League clubs in order to make their move to Old Trafford.

After completing their transfers, Cunha said playing for United was a “dream”, Mbeumo said he only ever wanted to join the Red Devils, and Sesko said United was a dream move.

While United now may be back in the Champions League and able to attract a higher calibre of player, Ineos should still make sure every new signing is desperate to be a part of the long-term project at Old Trafford.

Mateus Fernandes adores Man Utd and idolises Bruno Fernandes

When it comes to wanting to represent United, Fernandes ticks the box.

Fernandes has spoken about idolising Bruno Fernandes, and he would surely jump at the opportunity to play alongside his Portugal teammate at Old Trafford.

But on top of that, Fernandes also appears to be a fan of United. Speaking to the Premier League, he said he would love to have played in United’s 2008 side alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not only is Fernandes one of the most exciting young midfield prospects in the Premier League at the moment, but he is also an admirer of United.

If he pushes for an exit this summer, expect Old Trafford to be at the top of his preferred destinations.
