Manchester United are exploring academy sales as a way to bring money into the club this summer.

There is exactly one month to go until Manchester United begin their Premier League season against Arsenal at Old Trafford, and Ineos are yet to complete a single sale.

Ruben Amorim wanted transfer business done quickly this summer, but Ineos are finding it difficult to find buyers for five players not invited to pre-season training.

United are struggling to find buyers for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho this summer, so now Ineos are considering putting academy players up for sale.

Dan Gore is up for sale this summer, and United staff need to make a decision on the future of Toby Collyer.

United will set off on their 2025 pre-season tour of the United States next week, and Collyer will hope to be part of the travelling squad.

Collyer has been preparing for the new season after showing glimpses of promise in 2024/25, and his best chance to impress Amorim will be on tour.

However, The Athletic reports that United are keeping their options open for Collyer – he could stay, be loaned out, or even be sold this summer.

Amorim wants a new “athletic” midfielder to be signed this summer, which would force Collyer even further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The likes of Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes will already be competing for the two starting spots in central midfield.

Collyer appears to be an ideal profile for an Amorim midfielder, so it would be a strange decision to let him leave permanently this summer.

Last season, Collyer recorded “freakish” running stats in training, making him one of the most athletically gifted players in the squad.

Amorim has strict demands for his two midfield players, and Collyer showed signs of promise when given a chance by the Portuguese head coach.

In January after United’s 2-1 win over Rangers, captain Bruno Fernandes raved about Collyer, suggesting he was more than ready for first-team football.

“Toby doesn’t need help,” Fernandes said. “He has big, big qualities. He’s aggressive off the ball. He’s aggressive running with the ball. He’s class in tight spaces.”
