Sander Berge has emerged as a favourite for Manchester United to strengthen the midfield this summer over the past few days.
After Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte came to an end due to PSG demanding a significant fee – alternatives have been looked at.
There are now 10 midfielders who United have been linked to and among them is Sander Berge of Burnley – much to the surprise of everyone.
The Red Devils want to spend £20m on Berge, although the Clarets are instead demanding £30m.
The thinking is Berge would be a good fit at United for Erik ten Hag’s midfield and here is how the media in Norway have reacted to the deal.

How Norwegian press has reacted to Manchester United’s interest in Sander Berge
When Berge emerged as a real option for United this summer, it was a surprise despite everyone knowing of his ability.
The reaction was similar in Norway, however, it is being looked at positively and as being a deal which could be beneficial to United.
This is the case from outlet Nettavisen which has a Norweigan football expert – Lars Tjaernas – reviewing the move.
“Manchester United need a central midfielder with the combination of mobility defensively, as well as overview and ability to pass opponents offensively. Berge needs a club and league at a higher level to develop, and I think the chance of playing a lot at United is great. It would have been fun and useful if the transition went smoothly, writes Tjærnås in a text message to Nettavisen.”
We also spoke with Dag Langerod who is the editor of the United Supporters Club Scandinavia about his verdict of Berge.
“I can understand that scepticism, but I’m more in the other camp. I can see some huge qualities in his drive with the ball, his physicality, his pace and “step”, and I have always wondered if someone could unlock it.
“After watching him in different scenarios as a human being I would say that United also would be guaranteed a 10/10 personality, and that’s never wrong to have in a team.”
Dag continued to explain that Berge has not lived up to expectations, but this could be due to the quality of players he has played with.
“I’m wondering if a hopefully better and more dominant United, with more quality players around him, maybe could unlock performances like that more often, meaning he finally can get to the level some has waited for him to show.”
Sander Berge’s last visit to Old Trafford was impressive
Berge came to Old Trafford with Burnley late last season and it was almost a defeat for the Clarets after Antony scored.
It ended up a 1-1 draw though with Berge shining in midfield for the visitors as he completed 43/48 passes (90%) and also created three chances for his teammates as per FotMob.
Berge dictated play and even completed some dribbles for Burnley through the midfield. He did have one bad moment, with an error which led to Antony scoring, but other than that he was excellent defensively.
He won three tackles, made two clearances, two interceptions, seven defensive actions, five recoveries and won four duels.
If this was his audition, it is clear to see why Ineos want to bring him into the team.
