Isak Hansen-Aaroen was once viewed as one of the most exciting young talents at Manchester United.
The Norwegian midfielder joined Manchester United’s academy setup in 2020 and was considered a star in the making.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen had broken through to the first team of Tromso – a second-tier Norwegian team – at the age of 15 before making his move to Manchester.
Hansen-Aaroen arrived in 2020 as part of a spending spree that landed Alejandro Garnacho, but while Garnacho has just made his 100th senior appearance for United, Hansen-Aaroen was never given his senior debut.
During his four years in the academy, he impressed in the Under-18s and Under-21s but did not break through under Erik ten Hag.
Hansen-Aaroen left United in January 2024 to join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he hoped for more first-team opportunities.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen could leave Werder Bremen
When Hansen-Aaroen made his move, seemed a match made in heaven with Werder Bremen’s head coach Ole Werner hailing Hansen-Aaroen as “incredible” after he signed for £200k.
Hansen-Aaroen faced a short wait for his Werder debut due to an injury, but it quickly looked as though his decision to leave United had been justified.
He ended up making three Bundesliga appearances last season but never made Werder Bremen’s starting lineup.
It seems he has fallen further down the pecking order this season with Hansen-Aaroen yet to play a single minute for the German club in 2024/25.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Werder Bremen are open to letting Hansen-Aaroen leave the club in January.
He adds that Werder are open to a loan move for the 20-year-old after he has failed to break into the first-team plans.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen can turn things around
Hansen-Aaroen’s struggles at Werder Bremen have justified United’s decision to let him leave.
However, things have not worked out in Germany and a loan move could be the best option for the Norwegian youngster to get his career back on track.
Standing at only 5ft, 8in Hansen-Aaroen may find the physicality of first-team football difficult but he has bags of technical ability and potential.
He simply needs a club willing to give him a run of games and, vitally, experience at a senior level.
Hansen-Aaroen has been compared to Bruno Fernandes which proves how highly he was thought of at United. Things aren’t going well for him at the moment, but he can turn it around with time.
