Fabrizio Romano has now revealed the key areas of the Manchester United first-team squad that Ineos are hoping to address in the summer transfer window.
Ineos are expected to have a busy summer after the end of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, including appointing a new Manchester United manager.
Michael Carrick has been tipped as a potential candidate to become the next permanent United head coach after Ruben Amorim was sacked in January.
Ineos invested heavily last summer in the United first-team squad and brought through the doors of Old Trafford four major summer signings for Ruben Amorim.

Fabrizio Romano explains the importance of the Man Utd midfield and other areas of the squad that need strengthening
Senne Lammens, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were the key transfer targets that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime landed for the Red Devils in 2025.
Manchester United now face a major overhaul of their midfield area, with Casemiro set to leave in the summer and Manuel Ugarte’s future cast in doubt at the club.
Fabrizio Romano has shared that the Red Devils have a list of midfielders who are in contention for Ineos’ summer spending spree at the Premier League club.
“So, there are four or five midfielders that Manchester United have under consideration before deciding who are the ones they want to bring to the club,” he said on his YouTube channel.
Outside of the reinforcement to the midfield area, Romano has said that Ineos will explore a left-back option and “offensive positions” in the Red Devils’ squad.
“Then, keep an eye also on left-back, keep an eye also on the offensive positions because there could be some movement also there,” he added.

Fabrizio Romano thinks five Man Utd signings are the maximum that Ineos will look to pull off, depending on certain factors
Man Utd had previously been tipped to sign four players in the summer transfer window in preparation for the 2026-27 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford.
Romano has suggested that it could be four signings that United look to pull off, but he admitted that it could even be five if Ineos’ clearout of the squad is successful.
“So, I think Man United will be busy,” he explained.
“It could be maybe four, five signings, we will see how many also based on exits.”
United will play Nottingham Forest next at Old Trafford on Sunday before the Red Devils travel away to face Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.
