Not having the chance to play football is a difficult situation for any player to go through mentally.
So the last few months will have been tough on Jadon Sancho, even though sympathy from Manchester United fans is in short supply.
All Sancho had to do was apologise to Erik ten Hag for rebuking his training criticisms, but this was a step the player was not prepared to take.
Even right up until the last week Sancho was refusing to apologise to his manager, and now he is trying to remove himself from the situation.

Sancho pushing to leave Manchester United
After waiting four months without playing any football at all, Jadon Sancho is not willing to waste any more time.
Fabrizio Romano reports via his YouTube channel that Sancho is actively pushing for the move to go through as quickly as possible.
He explained: “Sancho is pushing to go to Dortmund now, as soon as possible, in the next days, not at the end of the January transfer window.
“Sancho wants to go immediately. He’s pushing. He’s telling Man United he wants to go there, Man United are advancing in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund.”
There is a possibility this move is wrapped up in the coming days. It should be in everybody’s interests to get it agreed.
Manchester United are looking for a loan fee which will go towards paying some of Sancho’s wages.
Whether there will be a clause in Sancho loan
Romano also explained what he knows so far about whether there will be a clause with an option or obligation for Dortmund to buy Sancho permanently at the end of the loan.
He says that at present, this is not on the agenda, commenting: “At the moment three is still absolutely no guarantee on a buy option included in the deal.
“It could be a simple loan for Jadon Sancho. Let’s see what happens in negotiations.”
Unless there was a particularly high fee set as part of the clause, Manchester United would probably rather gamble, hoping that the winger will generate a bidding war in the summer.
It is also possible that if Erik ten Hag is no longer manager in the summer, there could be a chance of a fresh start for the winger. But right now, he is pretty desperate to get away from Old Trafford.
