Manchester United are set to make Ederson the inaugural signing of the Michael Carrick era this summer, and now it’s moved closer to confirmation.

In the past week, it was announced that Manchester United have agreed to sign Ederson in a £34.5m transfer to kick-start a summer of anticipated spending.

Despite reaching an agreement, it was claimed that United fans will have to wait for the Ederson deal to become official, with July tipped as a timeframe for this.

Already, United are looking toward the next signing. But now Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on what Ederson has now done to move the transfer closer to confirmation.

Ederson to Manchester United draws ever closer

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Ederson has undergone what he calls an ‘unofficial medical’.

“Today, Man United formally closed their first signing of the summer. Now everything is in paper between Manchester United and Atalanta for Ederson, he is a United player from today.

“I am told that a first unofficial medical already took place at the organisation of Atalanta and everything is okay.

“In terms of club statement, in terms of Ederson holding the Manchester United shirt, we have to be a bit more patient.”

Romano then added that United are “already working towards” another midfield signing this summer, and that there could be updates in the next few days.

The deal for Ederson is just waiting for the Brazilian to travel to Carrington to sign and complete a formal medical. Atalanta is only a 2-hour flight from Manchester, so maybe he should be making that trip sooner rather than later.

Ederson feels likely to be a glowing success for United

There was a lot of uncertainty around whether Ederson would be a good signing, but now, after plenty of research and endorsements, there is a growing acceptance that United have got a good deal.

Speaking at the Formula One in Monaco, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has now praised Ederson, becoming the latest in a long list of people to be confident of the move working.

“The times we’ve played against each other, he’s been very physical. He’s quick, he’s strong, good on the ball, so I’m thinking he’s going to do really well, and he’s a good signing.”

This is on top of Italian experts suggesting he might be a bit of a coup for United if his game is successful in transitioning to English football.

As a third or fourth choice midfielder, Ederson has so little expectation surrounding his arrival, and that could really aid him in settling in.
