Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez believes Manchester United target Franco Mastantuono is destined to play in Europe.

Manchester United are planning to make improvements to Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of next season.

Ineos have already prioritised youth with their recruitment drive at Old Trafford, with Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu both prime examples of that, along with former Arsenal duo Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi.

That is set to continue as United make Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha prime targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

United fans will hope that Ineos add more players to the squad over the summer, which is why they will welcome news that the club’s scouts have been busy in South America.

Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastanuono has emerged as a target after becoming a regular for River Plate’s first-team at the age of 17.

Enzo Fernandez rates Manchester United youngster Franco Mastantuno

Mastantuno has quickly emerged as one of the brightest prospects in South America, registering 12 goal contributions in 54 matches for River Plate.

The highly-rated playmaker has attracted interest from Real Madrid, although it is understood that United were showing more interest than any other club.

Mastantuono has a release clause worth £38.5m but potential European suitors must wait until he turns 18 before he can make the move.

World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez has described the teenager as an “incredible player” and suggested that he is ready for a move to Europe.

“He’s showing that he has a European future,” Fernandez told ESPN F 12 when asked about Mastantuono.

“You can see it. He’s an incredible player. He’s doing very well and has shown great talent.

“In my opinion, he’s a star. I wish him the best and hope he can achieve all his goals. Hopefully he can also help us in the national team.”

It’s high praise for a young player awaiting his big move to Europe.

Manchester United face competition for Mastantuono signature

Mastantuono is one of the most sought-after players in South America right now, so United are bound to face stiff competition if they’re to sign him this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Mastantuono is being followed by several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

It is also understood that Atletico Madrid have already travelled to Buenos Aires to watch him live, while Barcelona are tracking his development.

Only time will tell if Mastantuono will follow Fernandez to the Premier League.
