Douglas Luiz now expected to leave Juventus after rumoured interest in signing for Manchester United

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of one Brazilian star and could yet add another this summer.

Ruben Amorim wasn’t too fussed about the Europa League in March, suggesting that long-term success mattered more than winning a trophy.

That stance has surely changed now, with United set to face Athletic Club in the semi-finals.

A place in the final is within touching distance for United and winning the Europa League can catapult Amorim’s side into the Champions League next season.

That would surely help United sign players this summer, with the financial boost and the lure of Champions League football coming into play.

United are already nearing a deal for Matheus Cunha, but the Wolverhampton Wanderers ace may be joined by another Brazilian ace.

Douglas Luiz interested in Manchester United

United need to add quality in midfield, especially with veteran duo Casemiro and Christian Eriksen potentially moving on.

Reports in February suggested that United made a late January move for Douglas Luiz, but no deal was done.

Juventus allegedly kiboshed a move as they sent Nicolo Fagioli to Fiorentina, meaning Luiz had to stay.

Tuttomercatoweb now claim that Juventus are open to selling Luiz this summer, just a year since landing him from Aston Villa.

Juve allegedly value Luiz at around €45million (£38.5million) in order to balance the books.

Luiz allegedly set a firm stance earlier this year – he only fancied signing for two Premier League clubs.

Those clubs are United and rivals Manchester City, with a move to Nottingham Forest seemingly not appealing.

City signed Nico Gonzalez in January, though, meaning a return to the Etihad Stadium is unlikely.

United can still offer that move to Manchester, though, and the rumoured January interest suggests that he is at least on Amorim’s radar.

Location is thought to be a key point for Luiz, who wants to join a ‘big club’ – and United may well tick the boxes.

Calciomercato add that Luiz really wants to just play regularly again, having struggled for action this season, with a departure considered likely.

Tuttosport suggest Luiz’s exit is ‘almost certain’, with Juventus already looking at other midfielders to replace him.

Douglas Luiz’s Premier League experience should appeal to United

Luiz was brilliant for Aston Villa, hitting nine goals and five assists from midfield last season.

The move to Juve really hasn’t worked for Luiz, starting just three Serie A games for Juventus this season.

A summer departure seems likely and United’s need for quality in midfield should make Luiz a prime target.

Luiz has bags of Premier League experience, having turned out 175 times in the top flight with Villa.

The Brazilian turns 27 in May, and whilst Ineos prefer signing younger players, Luiz’s Premier League know-how would be a welcome addition – especially if United allow two experienced performers to leave in Casemiro and Eriksen.

Roy Keane previously hailed Luiz as ‘quality’ during his Aston Villa days, praising him as a consistent performer.

“He turns up every week this player,” said Keane. “Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.

“He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe. In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball, very, very good,” he added when speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (14/01/24, 1:45 pm).

Luiz’s interest in United even without Champions League football at least clears one hurdle, and we make him a name to keep close tabs on this summer.
