Manchester United are expected to formally complete the move for Cerro Porteno youngster Diego Leon imminently.

Diego Leon is widely reported to already be a Manchester United player, it just has not been formally confirmed by either club.

Fabrizio Romano reported in late December how the paperwork had been signed and agreed, with the Paraguayan wonderkid set to leave Cerro Porteno to join the club.

Leon will officially join up with United in the summer, as he only turns 18 in April.

There is one more step beforehand, before official announcement can take place, it is reported.

Diego Leon set for Manchester United medical

Diego Leon is currently still training with Cerro Porteno ahead of their new season, but has a trip to England planned.

Journalist Bruno Pont reported that Leon’s agent Renato Bittar has advised Leon will be flying to undergo his Manchester United medical.

He writes: “Renato Bittar confirms to us in #LaGranJugada that in these days they will travel with Diego León to Manchester, the player will undergo medical tests.”

How much United will pay for Diego Leon

Leon will become the first Paraguayan to play for United when he eventually joins up with the club.

The teenager plays as a left-back, a position of major need for United long-term and short-term.

United will pay up to £4 million for the youngster’s signature, a potential bargain if he develops into a first team calibre player.

Manchester United’s involvement in the transfer window beyond this deal for Diego Leon is yet to be established.

The club are widely believed to need to sell before buying, making deals for top stars a lot more difficult to achieve.

That’s why cheap cost-effective deals like this one for Diego Leon are a key part of the club’s strategy moving forward, and it follows up moves for the likes of Chido Obi-Martin in the summer.
