Manchester United’s Dutch influence could continue this summer with Erik ten Hag now potentially looking to add another Netherlands international.
So many of Manchester United’s signings in the Erik ten Hag era have ties to Dutch football.
Andre Onana, Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Sofyan Amrabat have all joined the club having previously worked under Ten Hag in the Eredivisie.
Dutch hitman Wout Weghorst arrived in January 2023 and Mason Mount first popped onto Ten Hag’s radar during his time with Vitesse Arnhem.
United have already added another Dutch signing this summer with striker Joshua Zirkzee arriving from Bologna.
A bid for Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt has been rejected by Bayern Munich with United still hoping to bring him to Old Trafford.

Denzel Dumfries to Manchester United latest
Other Dutch players have been linked; Xavi Simons and Brian Brobbey spring to mind.
Another name can be added to the list with Inter Milan right back Denzel Dumfries a potential signing.
The Athletic claim that intermediaries are now discussing a potential swap deal involving Dumfries and United right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It’s stated that an exchange deal is ‘not advanced as things stand’ but Wan-Bissaka is understood to be keen on a move to the San Siro.
Wan-Bissaka doesn’t fancy signing for West Ham United but heading to Italy – either on a free transfer next summer or in a deal right now – appeals to the 26-year-old.
Wan-Bissaka is out of contract in 2025 and United would certainly prefer to strike a deal now, whether it’s cash or a swap, than see him leave for nothing next summer.
Inter are in a similar boat as Dumfries is in the final year of his deal and a swap may suit all parties this summer.
An attack-minded wing back who has been described as ‘dynamite’ in the Netherlands, Dumfries hit four goals and four assists last season and has shown quality in the final third throughout his career.
Dumfries could compete with Diogo Dalot
This swap appears to be in its infancy but Dumfries being swapped for Wan-Bissaka has been rumoured for a while now.
Reports in January suggested that Inter had proposed an exchange with Dumfries heading to United and Wan-Bissaka leaving for Serie A.
United allegedly rejected that offer though, despite Ten Hag being described as a ‘fan’ of Dumfries.
That idea is now being pushed agent but whether Dumfries would be guaranteed a starting role at United is another matter.
Diogo Dalot was superb last season and should start the season as United’s first-choice right back.
Perhaps Dalot can switch over to the left side at times, paving the way for Dumfries to feature on the right.
The 28-year-old would have to be ready for a battle if he does join United though and that is something he will have to consider after a prominent role with Inter.
