Jadon Sancho will have a ‘huge opportunity’ to kick-start his career with Manchester United’s Premier League misfit closing in on a loan move back to Borussia Dortmund.
It speaks volumes about how much Jadon Sancho’s status has suffered over the last two years that his imminent return to the Bundesliga giants already feels somewhat ‘make or break’.
Not just for his Manchester United career – that is surely broken beyond all repair at this point – but for Sancho’s wider footballing prospects.
Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watze confirmed on Monday that talks between United and the German giants are still ongoing, with BVB ‘cautiously optimistic’ that a deal will eventually be reached.
Didi Hamann is ‘cautious’ too, albeit in a less positive fashion.

Jadon Sancho set for Dortmund return
The former Germany international has seen Dortmund bring back a host of former players in recent seasons, and Sancho’s reputation would struggle to survive an ill-fated second spell like that suffered by Shinji Kagawa, Nuri Sahin and Mario Gotze.
“I’m always cautious about such returns,” Hamann tells Sky Germany. “It didn’t work out so well for some of those who were brought back.
“With Sancho, it’s something different. He has problems with the coach (Ten Hag). He’s been training for a while with the reserves. He will probably need a few weeks (to get back to full fitness).
The former Newcastle United, Manchester City and Liverpool midfielder does accept, however, that Sancho is a risk worth taking. Especially considering just how impressive he was during his first spell in the Bundesliga, and with an underwhelming Dortmund side facing an uphill battle qualifying for the Champions League.
Can Sancho spark Champions League charge?
“He showed what a great footballer he is in Dortmund. I see this as entirely positive. I believe a player like him will help Dortmund. They need speed on the wing,” Hamann adds.
“If (Sancho) gets back on track, it will increase Dortmund’s chances immensely (for the) top four. And he could also play in the Champions League if he is called up to the squad. This is a huge opportunity for him after twelve very disappointing months at Manchester United, and it is a huge opportunity for BVB.
“I hope that we will soon get the news that we will see Sancho in the Bundesliga again. I’m a fan of the player and I would be really happy – for the league and also for Dortmund. Sancho is someone who can decide games. They probably don’t have enough of that right now.”
