Manchester United have the chance to sign a youngster who looks guaranteed to become a world-class midfielder.

The midfield department at Manchester United may currently be an issue; however, the future of the position looks incredibly bright.

With an academy packed full of midfielders who have the potential to become elite, Ineos have only added to this over the past 18 months.

Sekou Kone was signed in 2024 for just £1m, choosing United over Barcelona. Despite yet to debut for the first team, Kone impressed during the post-season tour and is thought to be on the cusp once he returns from injury.

Following the addition of Kone, United have agreed to sign Cristian Orozco in 2026, with the Colombian midfielder seen as a Moises Caicedo-esque player.

However, the club are also keeping tabs on a 16-year-old who is viewed as the next big thing and Christopher Vivell may have to make a move now.

Christopher Vivell should be sorting the pre-agreement for Gilberto Mora

16-year-old Mexico senior international Gilberto Mora is hyped up as being football’s next elite midfielder, having become a sensation over the past year.

The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid have been mulling over a move for the teenager, which says a lot regarding the level of talent he has. Alongside much of Europe’s elite, United also holds an interest in Mora.

United have sent scouts to watch Mora in the U20 World Cup, where the wonderkid has been among the tournament’s best players, scoring three goals and one assist from midfield in three games.

As a result, United and other clubs will be circling Mora, with the potential to agree a pre-transfer which would see the 16-year-old move when he is 18.

However, with Mora standing out at the U20 World Cup, signing him could become an impossible task with better-placed clubs sure to make an approach.

So, in expectation of this, Vivell should be making plans right now to arrange the transfer of Mora for when he turns 18, as this might be the only chance to sign him before he commits to Barcelona or another club who are currently more attractive.

Gilberto Mora has a ‘special’ presence that not many footballers have

Mora is a generational talent, with his potential sky-high as he promises to be the new Andres Iniesta.

Mora’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has previously spoken to BBC Sport about what makes the 16-year-old so special, stating he has a special presence.

“I met Gil (Mora) six months ago. What impressed me was how serious and focused he was for someone his age, and how impressive his English was also. He immediately showed that he saw soccer not only as a game, but as a career to which he was willing to dedicate himself.”

“What distinguishes Gil is not only his talent, but the serene maturity he brings to each situation. On and off the court, he is exactly the same: concentrated, respectful, and with his eyes set on the long road that awaits him.

“He has that special aura that only certain soccer players have, the magnetism that is felt when he enters a room. He inspires those around him, not only in Mexico, but also abroad,” he concluded.

Such a personality to perform at such a high level at his age suggests that he could be perfect to deal with the pressure at United.

In the same article, it was detailed that Raul Jimenez also lauded Mora.

“He’s only 16 but already plays with confidence and personality and is unafraid of the occasion. I believe he can be a key figure for the national team and someone who inspires the next generation.”
