Championship boss opens up on possibility of signing 21-year-old Man United ace this month

Sunderland boss Michael Beale has been asked whether his side would be interested in signing Manchester United winger Amad Diallo.

Amad Diallo has been struggling with injuries throughout this campaign for Manchester United with the Ivory Coast international only returning from his big lay-off recently.

Manager Erik ten Hag trusted him enough to hand him 40 minutes against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, due to Antony’s poor performance in the East Midlands.

Amad looked to settle in nicely and linked up well with Bruno Fernandes during his cameo but the former Atalanta winger has not been seen since then due to an illness he picked up which forced him to miss the FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic.

Earlier this week, Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, said that Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough were winning the race for the 21-year-old due to the money they were willing to offer to sign him on a loan deal.

However, it was reported yesterday that United were keen on keeping the Ivorian as the Red Devils’ options in wide areas were becoming sparse with Facundo Pellistri seemingly on his way to Granada.

Well, speaking to the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats boss Michael Beale was asked whether his side would be interested in Amad were he to be made available and his answer was resounding.

“We’ve made it really clear to them that we would be in there but Man Utd really value him as well,” Beale said.

“He could have an interesting second half of the season in-house but if he was to go out on loan, I can assure you, they are well aware we would want him to come back here.”

United making the right decision

Despite the criticism that the club have faced for some of the decisions they have made this season, keeping Amad and having him as a backup option is the correct thing to do.

With 14 goals for Sunderland last season, there is obvious quality there and trying to hone that quality should be Ten Hag’s priority.

Alejandro Garnacho has done superbly well on the right for the Red Devils in recent weeks but having an option whose natural position is on the right could be vital for United for the rest of this campaign.
