Carlos Baleba has had a nightmare season for Brighton, but Manchester United remains interested in securing his signature this summer.

Last summer, Carlos Baleba took the Manchester United fanbase by storm, with ‘I’m a Baleba’ spreading like wildfire across social media.

The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder was considered the next big export from the south coast, with Ineos willing to bid for Baleba, only for a deal to be shut down.

United’s interest affected Baleba’s form as he struggled with the attention, as his head was well and truly turned for a move to Old Trafford. However, there have been signs of his talent, as was the case when he and Brighton battered Chelsea.

IS Carlos Baleba’s form concerning or do you still want him at Manchester United?🇨🇲

Baleba started in midfield for Brighton, and he was largely very impressive, which hasn’t often been the case this season.

Baleba played the entire 90 minutes, making 56 touches and completing 39/44 passes while even creating one big chance.

Defensively, he handled Enzo Fernandez with absolute ease, contributing nine defensive actions, one tackle, two clearances, and five recoveries, along with winning three duels.

Most impressively, Baleba never appeared to leave second gear, with his basic performance good enough to lock down £100m rivals.

The Cameroonian was strong, shielding teammates and winning the ball back more than the stats show. This was a performance that shows what he can do at the perfect time.

Baleba remains an option for Manchester United

Baleba’s form this season has caused a lot of people to write him off as a potential United signing, but this display proves why he’s still on the radar.

Reports have suggested that Baleba is on his own list in the midfield search, implying Ineos want him no matter what with his quality clearly standing out in the recruitment model.

United think Kobbie Mainoo needs a mobile partner, and Baleba is exactly that, covering lots of ground at pace and doing the athletic job in midfield so well.

Baleba could become more attractive to United, with his price tag almost certain to drop this summer, considering he spent half this season on the bench.

At a key point in the season, he is stepping up and this won’t go amiss. Catching headlines when recruitment drives are likely picking up.
