Manchester United need to sign a striker to add support to the team’s current goal-shy attack.
Needing to sign a striker at the end of the January transfer window is a familiar feeling to Manchester United fans.
Nobody can ever forget the desperate 2020 deal to sign Odion Ighalo. And now in 2025, United are stuck in the same situation.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are both struggling to score goals, neither have netted in any competition since early December.
Often in January, it is all about opportunity, and a new one may have presented itself.

Mathys Tel wants to leave Bayern Munich
In February 2024, Sky Sports reported Manchester United were keen on signing Bayern Munich prospect Mathys Tel.
Tel ended up signing a contract extension at Bayern, but it looks like he may now be regretting that decision.
The teenager is backing up Harry Kane at the Bundesliga club, and has found first team minutes tough to come by under Vincent Kompany this season.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Tel has decided he wants to leave Bayern Munich this transfer window, and the club are open to hearing offers.
Chelsea are claimed to be interested this month, with Romano cryptically adding ‘more clubs’ are also keen.
Given that United have previous links to Tel, and a need for a new striker, this one is certainly worth noting, with Florian Plettenberg adding later that United are considering entering the race.
Mathys Tel may not be what United need
Mathys Tel, 19, could be too much of a project for what Manchester United require right now.
Rio Ferdinand has demanded United move for Victor Osimhen, if it were possible, arguing United need experience to lead the line, somebody who a younger forward like Rasmus Hojlund and even Chido Obi can learn from.
Tel would fall into this category, and while United don’t necessarily need another Ighalo, there has to be a middle ground.
This season Tel has not scored for Bayern, but he has only 253 minutes of game time, spread across eight appearances at an average of 31 minutes per game.
Last season the French striker scored seven goals for Bayern, including the strike that proved to be the winner in their 4-3 victory over Manchester United.
There’s talent there – but whether he’s the striker United should gamble on, is open to debate.
