Manchester United’s summer transfer list includes signing a new midfielder to bolster the ranks of Ruben Amorim’s team.

This summer is set to see plenty of incomings and outgoings at Old Trafford, with multiple positions requiring an addition.

Manchester United have already been considering several strikers, while a move to sign Matheus Cunha is close to being completed, if reports are believed.

Ahead of the summer, Fabrizio Romano has claimed four positions are prioritised by United, with a new midfielder among the targets for Ineos.

United are hoping to sell Casemiro, despite his brilliance in the Europa League, with his wages simply too expensive. Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen is due to be released, while Toby Collyer could be sold for the PSR pure profit.

Due to all of this, adding another number eight to the ranks with defensive qualities would be the ideal midfield addition for United this summer, with one option showcasing why he is wanted at Old Trafford.

Jobe Bellingham stars for Sunderland in Championship play-off semi-final

This summer, United are considering both Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham, with the latter in particular wowing the club’s recruitment analysts with his athleticism.

Bellingham won the Championship’s young player of the year award this season for his brilliant performance, which has continued into the play-offs.

It was the Championship play-off semi-final first leg for Sunderland on Friday, in which the Black Cats won 2-1, despite having just 25 per cent of possession.

Bellingham was a standout, showcasing his defensive quality for Sunderland, with some excellent numbers in terms of his off-the-ball contribution, as his stats from SofaScore showcase.

Bellingham had an immense 16 defensive actions, 10 clearances, six duels won, and completed one excellent last-man tackle that kept Sunderland in the lead.

This all showcases that Bellingham is very well-rounded as a midfielder, and if signed, he would be an excellent fit into United’s midfield in either role.

Bellingham is a better option than Rigg in this situation, because he is more developed and has shown more reasons to be confident that he can step up next season. Bellingham is the kind of signing that we can trust Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox’s judgement on, given their track record with youth.

Jobe Bellingham’s strengths should excite Manchester United

One thing that is becoming clear about Bellingham is that he is already very well-rounded as a midfielder, with CBS TV analyst Mike Grella lauding the Sunderland star and his older brother, Jude Bellingham, who is one of the world’s best.

“He’ll be on everyone’s radar, right? I’m being serious, it is hard to pick him and his brother apart, not just the way they look, but the way they play, their games are so similar.

“They are both midfielders that you don’t see often, who can do everything. They’re good in both boxes, they can tackle, they’re nasty with big engines and cover a lot of ground.”

Of the brothers, Jude is a bigger attacking outlet, Jobe is showing himself to be an all-around number eight who can do it all on a football pitch. United should be pushing to complete this deal in the summer, as it could prove a bargain at £25m this summer if Sunderland don’t get promoted.
