Whether they’ll have the funds for their desired players is a different story – but Erik ten Hag will certainly be desperate for a few new names to bolster his first-team squad at Old Trafford.

This is why Manchester United are hot on the heels of Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacio – who showed once again this weekend why the Red Devils are keen.

Goncalo Inacio is a young Portuguese centre-half who is firmly on Erik ten Hag’s radar.

He won’t come cheap, valued at £52m, but Inacio’s fine performances in the Liga Portuguesa have caught the eye of the Red Devils among other Premier League clubs, who have all sent scouts to watch him.

The game United went to watch was a disaster, but he’s more than redeemed himself since – particularly in Lisbon’s last fixture.

How would Goncalo Inacio fit in at Manchester United?

As it currently stands, Inacio would slot right into the heart of Manchester United’s defence.

The reason he’s rated so highly by Ten Hag is the fact he’s a left-footed defender. The manager believes it’s essential to have a left-footer playing on his stronger side, which explains the purchase of Lisandro Martinez.

With Martinez currently out with a long-term injury, Inaacio would surely come in no doubt to partner Harry Maguire.

He would bring much-needed stability and a surprising amount of experience for such a young man. Watch this space, Inacio could be playing at Old Trafford in the near future.
