Wayne Rooney has revealed that his chemistry with ‘excellent’ Manchester United legend Sir David Beckham was mirrored with two former England players as well.
Sir David Beckham was already sold by Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2003 ahead of Wayne Rooney’s arrival at Old Trafford from Everton in 2004.
Despite not crossing paths with one another under Sir Alex Ferguson as Man Utd teammates, both Rooney and Beckham were able to link up for the Three Lions.
United legends Rooney and Beckham were both part of England’s infamous ‘Golden Generation’ that failed to lift any major silverware on the international stage.

Which one of these World Cup legends would have been the best signing for Man Utd?

Wayne Rooney and Sir David Beckham both captained England and featured at multiple tournaments, including World Cups and European Championships.
The 40-year-old former Manchester United striker once held the record for England’s all-time leading scorer after he eclipsed fellow Red Devils legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
Rooney took part in a Reddit ‘AMA’ this month and Man Utd’s all-time leading scorer was asked about his favourite England player to link up with on the pitch.
The ex-United captain praised the incredible abilities of Beckham for England, but Rooney revealed that Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard would be one of his picks as well.
“I had two,” Rooney said.
“I think one would probably surprise you. One was Steven Gerrard. Well, three actually. Steven Gerrard, I just really liked playing with Stevie.
“David Beckham was also excellent to play with because as a forward, you knew when he got the ball out of his feet, it was coming in the box, so you could make your run.”

Wayne Rooney reveals that Emile Heskey stood out for England alongside Sir David Beckham and Steven Gerrard
Rooney, who netted 53 times in 120 matches for England, admitted that former Three Lions striker Emile Heskey clicked well with him on the pitch as well.
“The other one was Emile Heskey, who I really liked and enjoyed playing up front with,” he said.
“I could play off him when he’d hold the ball up well. And then I could play behind and in front of him and get on the ball and he was really good to play with.”
Rooney made his England debut under Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2003 and the former Man Utd and Everton striker would later retire from international duty in 2017.
