Wayne Rooney has recalled one of the pranks that was played on iconic former Manchester United and Aberdeen manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson was well-known for dropping his infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’ on different Manchester United players who irked him during his legendary reign.
The 84-year-old former United manager also took a no-nonsense approach to his players and was not afraid to axe key players who stepped out of line at the club.
However, Wayne Rooney revealed that there would be times when Man Utd players would test the waters with Ferguson by teasing the beloved Scotsman.

Wayne Rooney says his Man Utd prank for Sir Alex Ferguson featured former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was only a teenager when Sir Alex Ferguson made the major call to sign him from Everton in a deal worth £27m.
Rooney enjoyed a prolific period under Ferguson at Old Trafford and went on to become United’s all-time leading scorer by eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton’s old record.
The 40-year-old ex-Man Utd striker arrived at the Red Devils in 2004, following on from the Premier League club signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting CP in 2003.
Speaking on his podcast, Rooney shared a Man Utd ‘prank’ that involved Cristiano Ronaldo and one that caught fellow Red Devils legend Ferguson by surprise.
“No, we just had little ones, where we go to roll the ball to him and he’d go to kick it and one of us […],” he said on The Wayne Rooney Show, as per BBC Sport.
“I remember one where it was a Champions League away game, I was actually lying under the table, where there was a cloth hanging down from it.
“And then Ronaldo’s passed the ball to him, [and] as he’s gone to kick it, I’ve just stuck my arm out to move the ball.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s incredible record at Man Utd spoke volumes amid the Red Devils’ post-2013 struggles
Widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford as Man Utd boss after the Red Devils’ last Premier League title triumph.
United lifted all 13 of their Premier League trophies under the Scot before Ferguson retired as the club’s manager at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
Ferguson has been an ever-present figure at Old Trafford since his retirement, with the former Aberdeen boss often spotted in the stands for matches since 2013.
However, United have faced a tall order in trying to climb back to the top of English football since Ferguson’s historic reign at the Premier League club came to an end.
Ferguson led Man Utd to their famous continental treble win in 1999 and captured two Champions League trophies, five FA Cups and four League Cups as well.
