Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney has now responded to a “difficult question” around his ability as an iconic striker in his prime.
Wayne Rooney’s playing career came to an end in 2021 at Derby County and Manchester United’s record goalscorer made the immediate switch to management.
The 40-year-old former Man Utd captain enjoyed a prolific playing spell at Old Trafford, including lifting five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
Rooney made his name as a teenage sensation at Everton under David Moyes before he took the next major step in his playing career under Sir Alex Ferguson at United.

Wayne Rooney netted 253 times in 559 matches for the Red Devils en route to eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton as Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer.
Joining United in 2004 from boyhood club Everton, Rooney would cement his legacy as one of the best strikers of all time after his sensational impact at Old Trafford.
The United legend took to Reddit and Rooney participated in an ‘AMA’ on the platform, as one user asked him about his most ‘overrated’ and ‘underrated’ qualities.
“It’s a difficult question,” Rooney said.
“Overrated, maybe, I’ve seen something actually the other day, saying that my left foot was very good, where it actually wasn’t as good as people might think.
“So, I did score quite a few goals with my left foot, but in terms of playing a 40 or 50-hour pass with my left foot, I wasn’t great at doing that. But I could still finish with my left foot.”

Rooney’s playing spell at United ended in 2017 during Jose Mourinho’s reign and the former England skipper returned to Everton for a brief second playing spell.
The former Man Utd striker admitted that he thinks his ability to head the ball is not talked about enough during his legendary playing career and after it as well.
“Underrated? Probably heading,” Rooney continued.
“At the start of my career, it wasn’t great, but I worked extremely hard to improve it and get better. Then I scored a lot more headers, so probably my heading was a bit underrated.”
BBC Sport pundit Rooney saw out the tail end of his prolific playing career with both DC United and Derby County after his second spell with Everton ended.
