Contradictory reports emerged on Friday that Manchester United had pulled out of a deal to sign Ederson. Even though that potentially rules out a fellow Brazilian international from joining the club, Matheus Cunha could be the big winner.
Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United won’t be signing Ederson after informing Atalanta that they have changed their transfer plans.
United reached an agreement to sign Ederson at the beginning of the summer. However, the 26-year-old midfielder received a late call-up to the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, delaying the deal and potentially leading to it collapsing.
United look set to turn their attention to alternative options to Ederson.

Although I would argue the prospect of signing Ederson excited players like Cunha, as it meant having another Brazilian in the squad, a U-turn could lead to one of his close friends at Wolves joining him at Old Trafford.
Cunha joined United from Wolves for a reported fee of £62.5m, and fans are eager to see him build on his performances in his debut season when the competitive campaign kicks off in August.
The United forward impressed at the World Cup, scoring three goals as Brazil reached the round of 16.
However, reports in the last 24 hours suggest another Brazilian midfielder could be on his way to Old Trafford, potentially forming a reunion with Cunha.
United have made contact over a potential deal for Joao Gomes after his summer move to Atletico Madrid collapsed.
Gomes was on the verge of signing for Atleti in a deal worth £38.34m, but the La Liga club have pulled the plug on the deal.
This means Cunha could be the big winner from the Ederson deal collapsing because Gomes was one of his close allies during his time at Wolves.
Granted that Gomes signs for the Reds, United fans will hope that there’s a strong connection on and off the pitch with Cunha, allowing both players to perform at their maximum levels.

Matheus Cunha gifted Rolex watch to Joao Gomes ahead of Wolves departure
Cunha gifted Rolex watches to two of his former Wolves teammates ahead of his transfer to United last year.
Brazilian duo Gomes and Andre revealed on social media that Cunha had gifted them Rolex watches.
Gomes shared the image of the Rolex box on Instagram along with the message he received from Cunha, as per FourFourTwo.
“I promised we wouldn’t be relegated and he promised a Rolex!! A man of his word,” Gomes said.
Sadly for Gomes, Wolves went on to be relegated in their first season without Cunha in the team.
